Discovery Museum’s high quality, facilitated schools programme offers a wide range of workshops that complement its diverse collections. These range from social and local history, maritime and fashion, to military history, and internationally important science.

Tours such as Big 5 Inventors explore Tyneside’s great Victorian inventions, such as Charles Parsons’ steam turbine, and Joseph Swan’s first incandescent light bulb, while practical workshops such as Building Bridges explore 2,000 years of Tyne crossings and the science and engineering behind their creation. Visits can be tailored to different themes and projects, including Arts Award, and the Discover a Story early years offer links children’s books to the museum collections.
