<p>Arts Centre Washington has had a strong reputation for participatory arts since it was founded in 1977, and it plays a vital role in arts engagement in Sunderland. </p><p>It houses a 120 seat theatre, art gallery, rehearsal rooms, dance studios and recording studio and the facilities support a range of activities in different art forms. In recent years, the centre has gained a regional reputation for delivering a high quality, diverse arts programme for children and young people. </p><p>It can support young people with Arts Award in a number of ways, including cross-art classes, its young achievers award scheme, a community music space, Sunfest, Big Music Hub, Somewhereto, Youth Dance Hub for Sunderland, and North East Children’s Theatre. Each year the centre provides work experience<br>placements for students. Priority is given to Arts Award students.</p>
