Call for sessions: Imagine If… 2018

About Imagine If…

Imagine If… is Culture Bridge North East’s annual one day cultural education conference. Imagine If… brings together the North East’s culture and education sectors to share examples of research and best practice in cultural provision by, for and with children and young people. Last year’s event focused on impact and included workshops on identity, community, theory of change, imagination, British Values and more.

Imagine If… 2018

This year, Imagine If… will take place on Tuesday 16 October 2018 at the Centre for Life, Newcastle, to an audience of roughly 120 educators and practitioners from across the North East and beyond.

The conference will explore the ways in which young people’s participation in creative and cultural experiences provides opportunities for them to express themselves, comprehend and reflect on their experiences and identities, and communicate to others. We will also explore the professional practice that underpins and facilitates this. We will consider how young people’s interests and cultures of communication might be incorporated into the planning and delivery of projects to enable young people to develop a sense of belonging and ownership.

The call out

We are looking for researchers, practitioners and organisations to submit proposals for sessions. Each session will be delivered to an audience of roughly 30 – 40 educators and practitioners from schools, other education settings and cultural organisations in the North East. Sessions could last for 20, 30, 40 minutes or an hour.

Sessions must explore the conference theme and are more likely to be accepted if they also meet the following criteria, as identified by our audiences at previous events:

1. Offer practical ideas for delegates to take away and implement
2. Give opportunities for delegates to work together
3. Demonstrate impact

Making a submission

To propose a session please send the following information, on no more than one side of A4:
1. Who you are and how we can get in touch with you
2. The theme of your proposed session and what our audience will learn from it
3. An outline of the content and the length of the session
4. How you will actively engage our audience
5. Costs

Proposals are to be submitted to Culture Bridge North East at bridge@twmuseums.org.uk by Friday 15 June 2018. If you have any questions about the conference or submitting a proposal, please email us or call our office on 0191 277 2243.
