Andrew Garrad

As Area Manager for North of Tyne, I help to connect schools and cultural organisations together through partnerships, collaborative working and information sharing. I lead on our Artsmark programme, working closely with The Forge, our Artsmark strategic delivery partner.

My career within the cultural and creative education sectors has been wide and varied! I worked as an assistant and researcher to a Member of the European Parliament whose portfolio included Culture, Media & Sport, before joining Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums. Within the museum service, I was initially responsible for corporate information, but my passion for cultural and creative learning began after moving to the team that managed Creative Partnerships in Northumberland, Newcastle and Gateshead. Following the end of the programme, I moved into local authority arts development before working in the dance sector with balletLORENT. Prior to joining the CBNE team, I worked for Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE) an international foundation dedicated to transforming the learning experience of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds across the world. I have an MA in Human Resource Management, I was an Arts Award trainer for five years and I'm a Board Member at Company of Others, a dance theatre company based in Newcastle.

In my spare time I like going to the theatre and wandering around museums and galleries. But most of this time is taken up with long walks with my two dogs.
